Welcome

Welcome to Polished Owl Consulting! I will use this space to share reflections and updates. You will learn about me and what I am thinking about and reflecting on as I start this new venture. I will share more about my background and what I have learned over the years. What are my core values and what do I have to contribute?

I may write about my family and friends, especially my sons (13 and 11), as they are always teaching me about learning. Being their mom and helping them learn and grow is my most challenging, humbling, and rewarding job! Both boys are great baseball players, which has made me think differently about handling mistakes, being on a team, and what it means to succeed.

I may write about my struggles with running, my lifelong hobby and sanity-saver. I fell last year and tore my hamstring and separated my shoulder. Persevering with running teaches me every day about being brave and doing hard things (especially when those things used to feel a lot easier), which is essential to learning and growing as a scholar, too.

I may write about my knitting, another hobby that keeps me thinking and trying new things. Knitting humbles me and often offers some deeper lessons on how to overcome learning blocks and keep a growth mindset when you’re doing something new. You can’t expect to be good at something the first time you try it! I love designing and making things, whether it is a new course, a blog post, or a sweater.

I may also reflect on useful resources and news from the world of higher education. We’ll see what’s coming!

Thank you for being here! I look forward to connecting with you.
