Coaching for PhD students and scholars

Empowering graduate students and scholars

With more than 20 years of experience at Harvard, Cornell, and other universities, I have worked with hundreds of graduate students and scholars on navigating academia, finding their scholarly voice, and building inclusive classrooms and academic communities. I specialize in helping academics across disciplines teach and communicate their research, and learn to present the best version of themselves for success in the university and beyond. Throughout my career, I have helped multilingual scholars build their oral English language proficiency, understand the norms and rules for success in their disciplines, and learn how to communicate their ideas clearly in the US cultural context.

What my clients are saying

Zuzanna Fuchs

Assistant Professor of Linguistics, University of Southern California

Thanks to Pamela I went from relying on instinct and intuition, to being thoughtful and deliberate in how I structure my courses and how I interact with both undergraduate and graduate student advisees. Pamela is incredibly supportive, and the way she pushed and asked questions without judgment was crucial in guiding me to reflect on my values and practices. Now in my role as tenure-track faculty, what I’ve learned from Pamela is the foundation for how I engage with students, not only in the classroom environment but also in my research lab, where being intentional about incorporating instruction, mentorship, collaboration, and clear goal-setting is especially critical to student growth and to achieving our research aims.

Fangsheng Zhu

Assistant Professor of Sociology, Duke Kunshan University

Pamela provided concrete, practical, and timely advice that greatly improved my teaching and communication skills in the classroom, particularly as an international graduate student adapting to an English-speaking academic environment. She is genuinely caring and approachable—I felt comfortable openly discussing challenges and setbacks with her. Over time, Pamela’s guidance significantly reduced my anxiety and enhanced my confidence as a teacher. I highly recommend her services!

Bailey Sincox

Perkins-Cotsen Postdoctoral Fellow, Princeton University Society of Fellows

Pamela coached me to distill my PhD thesis into a five-minute talk for Harvard Horizons—something that I thought was impossible! Through the process, she helped me connect with a broader audience for my research while also helping me understand the stakes of my thesis (now book project) in a way I hadn't before. I also took a short course with Pamela on using feedback to improve teaching. She introduced me to tools I still use in my classes, including mid-semester surveys for students to evaluate my teaching. Pamela's expertise made me a better candidate on the job market and has directly shaped how I write and teach today.
